The Provide safe and clean water for 1500 children and women projectaimed at improving water supply and sustaining it to serve the Mutulani community in Makueni County, Kenya has continued to prove its benefits to the whole community since its inception.

The water supply has been adequate and continuous to Mutulani Secondary School, Mutulani Primary School children, Mutulani Dispensary and the Market.

During the reporting period, the following took place in Mutulani area;

‘Mutulani Dispensary was ranked the second best performing health facility in Makueni County in provision of maternal health care in year 2023. This achievement is attributed to the continuous supply of water since its connection and as in any health institution, water is highly used in the Maternity Wings. Reported Mr. Joseph Nduva the newly elected Chairperson of the Dispensary in August 2023’

During the Kenya's national Heroes public holiday on the 20th October 2023, all the leaders of Kee Division crowned their celebrations by planting 50 trees in Mutulani primary school compound commenting the achievements realized in the two institutions over the last 10 years

The two institutions of Mutulani primary and secondary vegetables needs have been served from the school farms where the school children have been planting through the new curriculum [Competency Based] which is geared towards nurturing self-reliant citizens

The October-December rains are back where conservation of the nearby Muumandu forest and tree planting around the borehole are strategies ongoing through the efforts of the community who committed to continuously undertake to enhance sustainable supply of water. The Kenya government declared a national public holiday for tree planting on the 13th November 2023 where a major tree planting exercise will take place in the forest. This also has positive effects towards the water project

The next steps for the Mutulani project and the community include;

  • The Community through the Project Management Committee and PEN have laid down strategies to participate in the Giving Tuesday Campaign taking place in November 28th 2023.
  • Continue planting trees and nurture them to enhance their survival for borehole sustainability, PEN team and the project implementation Committee have also organized a tree planting exercise in the first week of December 2023 since the rains are still promising as well as reviewing the year and the Giving Tuesday performance.
  • Register the project, a process that had delayed due to a change in the State department of Social Development that has the mandate of registering Community groups and Community Based Organizations for the last one year. This will pave way for the committee to open a bank account to channel all the water levies collected  to enhance the project sustainability

PEN and the Mutulani Community are indebted to GlobalGiving for their continued partnership and support
