Project Report | Sep 4, 2026
Water for all in Mutulani community

By Mary Mutuku | Program Officer

We are delighted to present our progress report for our project “Provide safe and clean water for 1500 children and women” aimed at improving water supply and sustaining it to serve the Mutulani community in Makueni County, Kenya.

During this reporting period, June 2026 - September 2026, the Mutulani community continued to harvest their farm produce after good rains assuring of food security to the rest of the year and the first quarter of 2027. The rains also have supported the growth and survival of trees planted continuously by the community through MAWE CBO with an aim of reversing the effects of climate change and recharging the Borehole.

As the Mutulani community Dispensary, Mutulani Primary and Mutulani secondary continued to benefit from the water project enjoying the Smart Meter technology installed, PEN Kenya has completed the  the construction of a communal point for aimed at supplying water to the rest of Mutulani population with water at the Mutulani market. The supervision of this process has been undertaken jointly by PEN Kenya, MAWE CBO and Mutulani Project Management Committee.

Next steps

  • Install a Smart meter at the communal water point
  • Floater switch - The committee resolved to install a floater switch to automate the main storage water tank to be switching off the water once it is full and on when it has space to fill. This is aimed at reducing movement in and around the borehole area while embracing technology.
  • The above activities are aimed at boosting the sustainability of the Mutulani water project as agreed during the joint meeting between PEN Kenya and the Mutulani community Water Users and leaders

We continue to appreciate all our donors and GlobalGiving for the continued partnership and support
