Summary

Akraman is a small village in the Eastern Region of Ghana with a total population of 25,000 of which 12,000 are children. Although technology is fast growing in the global world, children of Akraman seem to be lacking behind. The prior goal of this project is to bring practical technology to the doorsteps of these children who had never seen nor touch a computer before our first, visit via training, providing the village with at least, an ICT learning center, and donating computers to schools.

Challenge

The world, now a global village, has made ICT necessary in all parts of human life. However, the 12,000 children of Akraman have neither seen nor touch a computer until our first call to the village. Computer literacy is one of the areas that makes school worth going to children. In view of this, most children of Akraman have dropped out of school due the lack of computers in schools and the village as a whole. This has resulted in teenage pregnancies, child labor and higher illiteracy rate.

Solution

Introducing ICT to the children of Akraman shall revive their spirit of going back to school and ensure they have a happy stay in school. They will be exposed to some basic knowledge and skills in ICT. The project shall provide the village with at least, an ICT learning center, and donate computers to the only public and private schools within Akraman. Since parents have greater impacts on their children, we will expose parents to some benefits of ensuring their wards become computer literates.

Long-Term Impact

In the long term, Akraman will have a higher population of ICT oriented persons who will be leaders in the village. Also, the project shall go a long way of discouraging school dropout among children of Akraman, which shall in turn reduce drastically or annihilate child labor, teenage pregnancies, illiteracy rate and other social and moral vices. There will also be an enhancement in trading within the village and Ghana as a whole. Lives of people of Akraman will be modernized in terms of ICT.
