At Chimes Israel, our immediate focus is helping our families in the south who are closed in their safe rooms with their family member with disabilities. Since they have less than 15 seconds to seek shelter after the siren sounds, they are inclined to stay in the safe room all day and night since their disabilities prevent them from making that 15 second escape. Please give what you can for the purchase of medical supplies, food, and equipment for our Chimes families in the south.
The people with disabilities and their families who Chimes Israel serves are invisible victims of the war between Hamas and Israel. With our early childhood, adult rehabilitative day care, and employment centers closed, our people need more help than ever. At the start of the war, while Israel's Homefront Command ordered our centers closed, we reached out to the staff and families of all 25 centers and programs to see what could be done to help.
We took physical therapy equipment from our centers and brought it to the homes. With donor help, we purchased and distributed additional equipment to homes. We bought iPads with assistive and communication applications for our children and adults with disabilities to stay in touch with their teachers and classmates. We purchased laptops for the employees to work from home and lead Zoom meetings with their classes. Each beneficiary also received a weekly home therapy visit.
Our organization, which provides daytime solutions to over 1400 people with disabilities and their families, is also in jeopardy due to this war. Our 25 centers were closed during the start of this war and the expected operative losses will be between $60,000 to $90,000. As a result of the ongoing psychological tolls of this war, we are now raising money for organization-wide resilience training (which is happening now) and trauma awareness training for 2025.
