In the nearly 16 months since the 6.2 magnitude earthquake hit central Italy, our nonprofit partners provided immediate relief and ongoing rebuilding efforts in the region. We have now closed this fund, but we have one final update to share. For continued updates from the ground, be sure to follow the project updates of our nonprofit partners.

By funding our nonprofit partners’ projects, your incredible generosity has helped communities in Umbria, Lazio, and Marche cope with the loss of human life and destruction to cultural heritage, family homes, and infrastructure.

We are happy to share with you some of the many accomplishments of our partners:

  • Enriching the lives of children. IBO Italia held a 10-day summer camp for 50 children impacted by the earthquake. The children participated in recreational activities, interacted with nature, and learned about environmental issues.
  • Providing psychosocial support. IsraAid trained 30 Italian therapists and 60 community leaders to respond to the psychological needs of those affected by the earthquake. These therapists and community leaders will also be able to respond to future emergencies in Italy. IsraAid also impacted the lives of 780 community members through group dynamic sessions, dialogues, creative arts-based interventions, and workshops.
  • Including communities in the rebuilding process. After immediate relief efforts, ActionAid International has been focused on government transparency, civic monitoring, and participatory dialogue. They held 42 community meetings, engaged with 170 digital activists and volunteers, and launched an information platform that received more than 100,000 views in its first three months.

Your donations have made a lasting impact on communities affected by the 2016 central Italy earthquake. Thank you for your support.

Warmly,
Kayla + the GlobalGiving Team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
