Summary

By supporting Teach For Pakistan, you will enable recruitment of 30 bright graduating university students to teach full-time for two years in low-income neighbourhoods in Islamabad. As Teach For Pakistan Fellows, these 30 graduates will teach 1,200 primary school students, laying a strong foundation for their future academic success and personal growth. By training teachers and working with parents, Fellows extend their impact to improve learning and life outcomes for thousands of students.

Challenge

Half of Pakistan's children between the ages of 5-15 are out of school. 50% of 5th graders can't read at or compute math at a Grade 2 level. The World Bank reported in 2007, "A school with leaking roofs, no textbooks, and uninvolved parents can still produce good learning outcomes for students if the teacher is motivated and committed." We need resources to recruit young people who have what it takes to be inspiring teachers and who can change the children's lives.

Solution

We draw promising graduates to teach children that are resilient but lack resources. For 2 years, Fellows work with students to boost academic and life-skills, hold extra classes and expose students to higher education, setting them up for the best opportunities. Fellow-taught students improve subject skills by 1 year in 5 months of teaching and perform twice as well in exams vs. peers. Fellows train teachers and engage parents to strengthen the learning environment in the school and community.

Long-Term Impact

Graduating Fellows become lifelong champions improving the education system. 73% of the Teach For Pakistan Alumni are engaged directly in the education sector: re-writing textbooks and curricula, testing innovations, furthering research, training teachers and creating model schools. They are changing the future for Pakistan's children, and for Pakistan.
