What a true pleasure to write this report to thank you all for your generous donations that have allowed this project to be fully funded!!
From 2011 to 2017, SOS Children’s Villages Morocco has supported 59 families in the Northern region of Morocco called Imzouren on their way to Autonomy. The main characteristic of these families is that they are all headed by a single, divorced or widowed mother living in extreme poverty, with a high risk of children abandonment or exploitation.
Therefore, one of the main purpose of this program was to make sure that the 134 children concerned by this program get the chance to continue their education as long as they can in order for them to break the vicious circle of poverty. To achieve this, the program provided all the school furniture, educational support and tutoring classes needed for them to succeed at the end of each academic year. As a result, we are extremely happy to report that their academic success rate was way above the national average.
In the meantime, their mothers have had literacy classes as well as different training sessions (hairdressing, dressmaking, Cooking and baking, soap making and livestock farming). At the end of which, they have received Financial support to start Income Generating Activities. Every one of the beneficiaries received, depending on their training, new ovens, sewing machines and sheeps/cows for them to get start small businesses. A group of women even created their own cooperative to launch their project. As the old Chinese proverb goes “don’t give me a fish, but teach me how to fish”, hopefully, all the families that are now autonomous have all the necessary tools to take their future in hand.
Your donations made a huge impact on the lives of families participating in the program. Your support enabled SOS chlidren’s Village Morocco to overcome many obstacles and bring entire families towards autonomies. On behalf of all the families we supported in Imzouren, I thank you for your precious help!
This project is today officially closed. We are running similar programs in different locations (TitMellil / Mediouna / In the rural suburbs of Casablanca). We hope to continue to receive your support.
