Catherine is an internally displaced and disabled person from Muyuka, who now resides in Muea, a community located in the southwest region of Cameroon. She is a single mother of one and is currently benefiting from our livelihood project being implemented in the area. Prior to the crisis, Catherine used to sell vegetables to support herself and her child, with a running capital of 2000 CFA ($3) and an average profit of 1500 CFA ($2). Despite her disability, she managed to keep her business running. However, after being displaced, she lost her source of livelihood and found it challenging to make ends meet.
During a door-to-door identification process, Catherine was identified by one of our social workers. She received training in business management, savings, bookkeeping, and sexual reproductive health rights. Following the training, she received a first-level grant of ($93) 57200 CFA, which she utilized to start selling smoked fish. As her business grew, she began to supply in great quantity. When Catherine received her second grant of ($186) 114400 CFA, she decided to expand her business by including fruits. While running her business, Catherine faced some challenges. She incurred losses worth ($81) 50000 CFA because most of the fruits she bought upon arrival were already bad. Despite the hurdles, she persevered in her efforts. Currently, Catherine has a capital of ($326) 200,000 CFA and earns a monthly profit of ($57) 35000CFA. With her business, she is now able to provide for her child and buy necessities for herself.
“Thanks to the generous financial support that I received from ReachOut and its partners, I am now able to provide for my child's needs and afford must of my necessities. With their help, I no longer have to worry about how I am going to pay for my child's education, healthcare, and other basic needs. This support has been a life-changing experience for me and my family, and we are forever grateful to ReachOut and its partners for their kindness and generosity.” Said Catherine
