Hello Dear Donors,
We are delighted to brief on the update of the Youth Engagement Program (YEP). It is however important to note that we received an amount of 75 USD for the project which could not cover the cost of the implementation. Thus, Reach Out resorted to seek funds from other friends and partners to keep the smile in the faces of the kids as it has always been the case in the previous years.
This year, 175 Youths from Douala, Bakweri Town and Tole of the Buea Municipality benefited
in the Youth Engagement Programme which seeks to distract them from risky behaviors, such as juvenile
delinquency, drug abuse, HIV/AIDS and STI’S. Participants received lessons and practical exercises on Hygiene and Sanitation, Generalities of Health, Human Rights, Craft work and Environmental Sanitation.
At the closing ceremony attended by parents and administrative authorities, children exhibited and showcased all
what they have been able to acquire throughout the one month period. Children also received back to school materials like books, pens and pencils and hygienic packages like bathing soaps and toothpaste.
Expressing her gratitude to Reach Out Cameroon and partners, one of the parents who doubles as the head teacher for the school where the programme took place in Tole had this to say “During the summer holidays, youths are
most often left to themselves which could expose them to getting themselves involved in risky behaviors. By providing an alternative to fill in their summer holidays, the children are kept busy and they develop valuable skills, which result into positive behavior”
