Keep Them in School

After the earthquake disaster occurred in the eastern side of Turkey, TEV focused on the work of the first response to the disaster. The Foundation coordinated with the Disaster Platform Association of Turkey for search & rescue volunteering. It kept WhatsApp and SMS hotline and phone calls to grantees available. First, the Foundation aimed to give additional support to young people who are already grantees of TEV. As a result, additional financial support was provided to its current grantees studying in the earthquake-affected region. In addition, 1.200 students - who have lost a parent or parents and/or a sibling, were provided scholarships.

Starting with the 2023-2024 academic year, the Foundation has been supporting students through regular financial aid. The funds raised for the Keep Them in Scholarship Fund are vital to sustaining this effort. In line with its commitment, the Foundation seeks individual and organizational donors, who would like to contribute to the Fund.

In the 2025–2026 academic year, the Turkish Education Foundation continued to award scholarships to 20000 students, one out of every five of whom has been affected by the earthquake.

In addition to scholarships, we have built six schools in the region. The two most recent schools opened this year are as follows:

• A preschool in Kahramanmaras, built in collaboration with ING Bank, which has welcomed 100 children who will learn and play in a safe and supportive environment,
• A primary school in Osmaniye, built in collaboration with Senpiliç, which has opened its doors to 1000 students, expanding access to quality education in the region.

Thanks to our donors’ continued and invaluable support, we keep contributing to efforts to sustain education for those most severely affected by the earthquake.
