The virus is still causing problems.

Dear Friends and Supporters.

Like many organisations we are struggling to make rapid progress during these difficult times. Normal life has been sidelined and the Trust cannot break strict lockdown rules. Our Humla health project is assisting the District Health Officer in controlling the spread of the Corona virus and this has been very successful in limiting the spread of infection. No one has died in Humla as a result of the virus.

However, our Service Centre is not seen to be essential so its activities are seriously limited. Lockdown rules mean that essential repair work outwith Simikot cannot be managed until the situation improves. It is also winter now and heavy snow falls restrict travel on the mountain trails. Some work is happening in the Centre to help generate income and improve the viability of the project. It has always been the intention that the project would be self sustaining and generate its own income. The pandemic has created problems but we hope not for ever.

We have had to agree with our implementation partner, LIDS, a revised contract to ease their cash flow problems during this difficult time. We have agreed to keep the rent level as it is until there are clear signs that business improves. They have recruited two technicians to expand their service capabilities. All the initial equipment order has now been installed. More equipment has still to be ordered as part of the new agreement.

I wish I had more positive news to tell you  but it is how it is and we can only hope that things will improve. It does not help that a possible political crisis is developing in Nepal as the current administrative party has split in to three seperate factions. This does not help some of the poorest people in the world who just want to lead their normal lives albeit with help to remove some of the tiresome burdens that inflict their everyday lives. That is what we are trying to achieve in the remote Hidden Himalayas.

We thank you for all your help and support in the past and we hope you will continue to support us in to the future. Let us get this innovative Service Centre up and running successfully (there is nothing like it anywhere in the remote Himalayas and is a reason why the Trust is the current holder of the PremioItalgas Award for 'Projects in the Environment" - one of the most prestigious awards in the world). £10000 will guarantee the future viability of this project and a better life for the inhabitants in this remote corner of the world. It will also contribute to a healthier environment in this climate warming world.

Please share and encourage with your friends and help get us to the finishing line.

Namaste
