Empowering Darfur's Children

By Sage Lancaster | Fundraising and Outreach Coordinator

All Children Deserve an Education
All Children Deserve an Education

We have been building Kindergartens for villages in Darfur since 2013 and have built Nine so far. 1500 children start back at school this month!   By giving children access to education early during the most important and formative years of their lives, we are setting them up for success.  Success means lifting their families out of abject poverty. We currently have the funds for one more Kindergarten which we are working on at the moment for Lawabid, a village we adopted in 2005.  The mothers there have been asking if we could help to educate their children ever since then.  It is their dream for their little ones.

At Kids for Kids we must plan ahead but we will not promise what we cannot provide.  "The thought of disappointing people when they have so little is horrific"  says Founder Patricia Parker "We have plans to build four more Kindergartens, but must go one at a time.  Lawabid will be the first. "It is anticipated that each of these five Kindergartens will immediately benefit approximately 130 children, which means a total of 650 children in just the first year!   Their mothers cannot read and write so you can begin to imagine what this means to them."

We want to thank you all for supporting this project over the years! This is our last project report because we are absorbing our Kindergartens Project into our project titled 'Empower Women to Earn an Income'. By empowering women to earn their own income, they are able to make decisions for themselves and their families for the first time ever. Mothers in Darfur know that education is the best way out of poverty for their children. Kids for Kids is doing all it can to ensure as many children as possible have that chance. From years of experience, we have seen mothers make the best decisions they can for their family - always putting their children first. By helping women to help themselves, they will be able to send their children to school in the Kindergartens we are building in their villages. If you would like to keep supporting our Kindergartens Project and help us build these schools, please go here.
