Summary

Your donation will help a dog go from LAB to LOVE! The Beagle Alliance is a Canadian registered charity. We take dogs who have been harmed and confined in animal testing facilities and place them into loving homes. We find incredible people willing to take in a beagle with PTSD and anxiety and educate them about cruelty free living and caring for a special needs dog. We provide veterinary and behavioural care, spay/neuter, vaccinations and 24/7 support for our fosters and adopters.

Challenge

Over 70 000 dogs a year are used in animal testing across Canada and the U.S. In our own country of Canada there is no federal legislation protecting these animals and most people are unaware that this practice continues. Dogs like Murphy, below, are bred for science, living their entire lives in confinement, never seeing the sun, feeling the grass, or playing with a toy. Most of the dogs that could be released are euthanized. The laboratories say that they could never live within a family.

Solution

RESCUE + ADVOCACY = AWARENESS Re-homing these beautiful survivors is not only lifesaving, but change-making. Beagles are the most widely used breed of dog in testing - because they are docile, forgiving, and resilient. Seeing their transformation from scared and solitary to loving and accepting opens the door to learning about the use of animals in science, about cruelty free alternatives and consumerism, and about how we can come together as a community to give them a second chance.

Long-Term Impact

The vision is to see dogs in research given second chances. Murphy's mom: "He was kept in incredibly inhumane conditions, was terrified of loud noises and human touch. He now comforts my son with autism, and we couldn't imagine life without him." By rescuing one beagle at a time, families are created - families who impact a community with their stories. With outreach and education, minds and laws will change, and more dogs will go from LAB to LOVE.
