1132 NEW HIGHSCHOOL FEMALE STUDENTS IN 2023-24
By Filiz Celebi | Scholarship project leader
From High school to university
Dear donor,
In 2023-2024 school year we accepted 1132 new high school students to our scholarship program “I have a daughter in Anatolia, she will be a teacher”. This year the number of new scholarship students is relatively low compared to the past three years because last year after the earthquake of Feb 6th, we had to accept more than 1000 students in the middle of the school year. The total number of secondary and high school students we support in 2023-24 is 9518.
We are proud to announce that 995 of the 1528 high school graduates of last year are continuing on to university and we are supporting them with university scholarships. The 65% success rate is the highest of the past years and is thanks to our Project “From highschool to university” which prepares with free of charge online courses the attendants for university exams.
When we accept students to our scholarship program, we have to make provisions to support them until their graduation. Due to the high inflation in Turkey in the recent years, scholarship amounts had to be increased much more than the rates calculated in previous years. For this reason, to support the existing students and to accept more students, we rely on your donations.Thank you for your great support.

WE SUPPORTED 15000 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS LAST YEAR
By Filiz Celebi | Scholarship project leader
Student from Cukurova branch with computer
Dear donor,
We have recently published our biennial activity report and we would like to share some numbers about our secondary school and high school scholarships of the past year.
In 2022-2023 school year, CYDD headquarters gave 9.090 scholarships to high school students; combined with 6.867 scholarships given by CYDD branches, the total is 15.196 scholarships. There are 898 male high school students in this total as we had to support from earthquake affected families their sons as well as their daughters. About 1800 scholarships were given to primary and secondary school children mostly from disaster stricken areas. The majority of high school scholarships are given to students from regular Anatolian High Schools and Science High Schools but about 1500 vocational school students also received scholarships.
For the school year 2023-2024 we are in the process of accepting new students in place of last year graduates.
We will continue with our “support to education” projects such as “Pebble Stones of Science”,“PERGEL Positive Adolescent Development Program” for age groups 10-14 and “Young Starfish” for age groups 14-18 and “From High school to University” for age groups 16-18.
Thank you for supporting girls’ education and please note that November 28 th is Giving Tuesday and donations made on that day will be matched by GlobalGiving and will make a greater impact.
Kind regards,

NEW EARTHQUAKE SCHOLARSHIPS GIVEN MID YEAR
By Filiz Celebi | Scholarship project leader
After the earthquake
Dear donor,
In our previous report we talked about the devastating effect of the earthquake in southeastern Turkey. CYDD was already supporting 3600 students from this region, half of whom were girls from high school.
Many other students living in this area had to leave their damaged homes and hometowns with their families and moved to temporary lodgings provided by the state or by their relatives in different towns. With this wave of internal migration, CYDD branches in other towns such as Mersin, Bursa, Konya,Ankara and Izmir were faced with a new demand for scholarships in March 2023.
We made a fast survey to confirm the needs of the applicants and accepted about 1000 girls as new scholarship students. We paid their monthly scholarships for 4 months till end June and provided some with Hometech notebooks so they could follow the education which become remote after the earthquake.Meanwhile with the rising inflation, cost of living has doubled and we have made a decision to double in Turkish liras the scholarships we will pay during the 2023-24 school year.
Many corporations and individuals offered us help to support these students at the aftermath of the earthquake. However the earthquake relief aids have now slowed down but we are under the obligation of supporting these students till their graduation and need your donations more than ever.
Thank you for being with us..
