The link between poverty and the high rate of school dropouts in Liberia is evident. The financial strain imposed by poverty often leads to families struggling to cover essential education-related expenses, such as school fees, uniforms, textbooks, and transportation costs. At YDCA, we provide financial aid and scholarships as well as mentorship to adolescents' girls & children in Liberia, helping to open doors to a brighter future and empowering them to make informed life decisions.
Thousands of teens are confronted with enormous social and economic challenges in Sub-Sahara Africa, especially in post-conflict Liberia where the root cause can be traced to abject poverty, lack of literacy opportunities, high rate of unemployment, and lack of professional skills, traditional culture prevalence, and equal opportunities among parents and girls. The burden of poverty place immense pressure on parents to prioritize immediate economic needs over long-term investments in education.
This project works directly with adolescent's girls at the community level and provide comprehensive support in the form of financial aid that cover school fees, textbooks, and educational materials. The project encourages adolescents to pursue education by removing financial barriers, helping them carry their dreams with pride. Adolescents are pair with a highly trained experience mentors who provide guidance to know their Value, Voice, Body, Rights, and career Path.
This project's long-term impact is multifaceted, as it not only addresses immediate issues but also lays the foundation for lasting change within the community. The project will eventually reach 200 girls in Montserrado, Bomi and Grand Cape Mount counties in Liberia. Moreover, the scholarship and mentorship program has proven to improve school outcomes. By providing financial support, and mentorship, its paves the way for a brighter and more prosperous future for the next generation.
