In Colombia, healthcare access for children faces significant challenges. Despite being affiliated with the healthcare system, many children struggle to access necessary surgeries due to structural, geographic, economic, and educational barriers. Delays in appointment scheduling, treatment authorization, and lack of continuity in care are common. The high number of legal actions (tutelas) filed for violations of the right to health reflects a systematic breach of this fundamental right.
Access to Medical Care: Many children from low-income backgrounds cannot access surgical services due to economic barriers. These campaigns provide them with the opportunity to receive specialized medical care at no cost.
This surgeries provide access to procedures that would otherwise be inaccessible for resource-limited individuals. This can change patients' lives and enhance their long-term well-being. In summary, free surgeries not only address immediate medical issues but also have a positive impact on long-term health.
