A support of Rs.90,000 ($1,350) (Approx.) is needed for one year for the electrification of 20 households in Mala hamlet near Madri village of Jhadol tehsil in Udaipur district. The grant will enable the households of Mala hamlet to overcome the problems associated with unelectrified village of 21st century and thereby have access to better standard of living. Mala, a small hamlet located beside Madri village in Jhadol tehsil of Udaipur district Rajasthan, about 60 Kms from the main city is home to 60 households of Bhil tribe.The hamlet is about 80 years old. Jhadol, being a highly backward area in Udaipur district, the entire block was unelectrified until recently under the Rajiv Gandhi Rural electrification program, and the recently initiated Pandit Deendayal Gram Jyoti Yojna.
A solar home lighting will be installed in each and every household. Batteries will provide power if in case the solar panel is not able to charge batteries in off weather. Each household will be provided two bulb mounts along with a pair of LED bulbs. In addition a 5 ampere socket will be provided to each household which will enable the villagers to purchase mobile phones and recharge their batteries.
The project is sustainable in long run. The life of the solar panels is 20 years at least, that of the batteries is 2-3 years and LEDs function smoothly for 7-8 years at least. The southern part of Rajasthan where the project area is located receives abundant sunlight and adverse climate conditions are rare.
