Summary

Thousands of rural children in Niger State grow up without the ability to read or write due to poverty, limited school access, and inadequate learning materials. This project will provide structured literacy classes for 800 children, equipping them with foundational reading and writing skills that open doors to lifelong learning and future opportunities.

Challenge

Illiteracy remains widespread in rural communities across Niger State. Many children attend overcrowded schools with untrained teachers, while others have no access to school at all. Without basic literacy skills, children struggle academically, socially, and economically. This cycle of educational disadvantage limits their ability to participate fully in society and reduces their chances of breaking out of poverty.

Solution

This project will establish communitybased literacy centers where children receive daily instruction in reading, writing, and comprehension. We will: Train local facilitators to deliver highquality literacy lessons, Provide storybooks, workbooks, and learning materials, Engage parents to support learning at home, Create safe, childfriendly spaces that encourage consistent attendance By offering structured literacy programs, we empower children with the skills they need to succeed in school

Long-Term Impact

Each year, over 800 children will gain essential literacy skills, reducing dropout rates and improving academic performance. Over time, communities will benefit from a generation of educated youth who can contribute to local development, pursue further education, and access better economic opportunities. This project helps break the cycle of illiteracy and builds a foundation for longterm educational empowerment.
