April 6, 2019 is the International Day of Sport for Developement and Peace. We at Live and Learn in Kenya International take this important day very seriously. The importance of sport for children is becoming more and more obvious - not only because of keeping children fit - but also for keeping them alert throughout the day - and happy. Children have a compulsion to move and react. They want to MOVE and have fun at the same time. They also want to prove themselves - to themselves and to their friends, teachers and parents. We acknowledge that competition is important in life. It is good to see how far you can go in comparision to others - but it is also important to learn how to accept losses and wins in a peaceful and respectful way. That is what we are thriving to achieve at the Live and Learn in Kenya Education Center in Nakuru, Kenya.
It is all too easy to just allow children to play sports by themselves on the playground at break time and fight out their indifferences. We find it important to always have adult supervision during all sports activities. Besides the weekly sports and activities Saturdays every week, we organize at least two formal Sport Days every year, which is open to all of our 451 Live and Learn in Kenya children and youths. April 6th and the first Sunday of the end of the school year break in October. These days are filled with sports, fun and laughter. This year April 6th will be different. We have decided to invite pupils of a partner school to enjoy the day with our children and also eat a meal together. All of this under the motto “What does peace mean to you?”.
We are looking forward to the answers we receive – both from our guests and our own children.
The Live and Learn in Kenya Kids are preparing for the event with a colorful array of games, sports and awards. Alone the preparation is reason to smile!
We now have 451 children on the Live and Learn in Kenya International program – 236 girls and 215 boys. 270 children are attending our own school and kindergarten.
We have finished the construction of the dining / multi-purpose hall at the Live and Learn in Kenya Education Center and are now working to raise funds for its furniture. The old furniture that we are still using, is far too large and wide, making it difficult to seat many children at once for a meal.
Most of our children and youths are doing very well at school and nearly all of the children – with the few exception of children with learning challenges – attending our own school are receiving above average exam marks and report cards.
From the 451 children, only 5 of them are not yet sponsored.
We are very proud and satisfied with “our” children’s doing their best to be all that they can be. Your support has helped to make this possible.
Asante sana - thank you for your assistance!
