This project empowers 500 women in rural communities of Nigeria with long-acting reversible contraception (LARC), specifically the Intra-Uterine Contraceptive Device (IUCD). We provide comprehensive counseling, safe insertion, and necessary follow-up care at no cost. By removing the financial and logistical barriers, we enable women to safely space their pregnancies by up to 10 years, dramatically improving maternal health, child well-being, and their family's economic stability.
Many women desire to space or limit their children but face a crisis of unintended pregnancy and high maternal mortality. Highly effective, long-acting methods like the Intra-Uterine Contraceptive Device (IUCD) are often scarce and unaffordable for women living in poverty. Without access to these reliable options, women are forced to rely on short-acting methods that have high failure rates due to inconsistent use, leading to frequent, unplanned pregnancies & immense health & economic stress.
We bring the solution directly to the women through mobile outreach clinics in their villages. Our project addresses the three main barriers: Cost, Access, and Knowledge. First, we provide the highly effective IUCD at no charge. Second, our skilled nurse-midwives travel to the community for on-site insertion. Third, we offer culturally sensitive, one-on-one counseling to dispel myths and ensure informed, voluntary consent.
Providing women with 10 years of birth control will prevent thousands of unintended pregnancies. The long-term impact is a foundational shift in family welfare: healthier mothers, lower infant mortality, and greater food security. When family size is manageable, women gain the stability to pursue economic activities, invest in their other children's education, and secure a higher quality of life. This shifts the community from survival mode to sustainable development.
