Summary

Youth and young adults face a growing mental health crisis. Rates of depression, anxiety, and loneliness have doubled from childhood to young adulthood, with the WHO recognizing this as a major public health issue. We need your help to create safe spaces where young people can share their struggles and access vital help.

Challenge

In 2024, 529 young people lost hope and ended their lives. Youth and young adults in Japan face rising depression, anxiety, and isolation fueled by academic pressure, economic uncertainty, and the pandemic's aftermath. Limited access to mental health support, stigma, and barriers like cost and the number of accessible services, leaves many struggling alone and delaying help until crises worsen. We believe no one should feel so alone.

Solution

Access to a toll-free crisis line gives youth and young adults a safe, anonymous, and immediate way to reach out for help when they're struggling without worrying about cost, stigma, or needing an appointment. It lowers the threshold for seeking support and connects callers to trained volunteers who can listen, provide support, and connect them to additional services. This kind of early intervention can prevent more severe crisis like self harm and even suicide.

Long-Term Impact

Youth suicide remains a leading cause of death in Japan, with over 1,000 young people (529 of them students) dying by suicide in 2024. Providing timely support and connections to resources can prevent crises and reduce these numbers. Long-term, this helps build resilience, improves school retention, lowers psychiatric emergencies, and restores hope for a brighter future.
