Ki Culture Updates: November 2020 - February 2021

By Rida Arif Siddiqui | Fundraising Coordinator

The partnership between Stichting Ki Culture and GlobalGiving continues to support a future of sustainability in the cultural heritage sector. Thanks to the generous support of our donors, Ki Culture has so far raised over 9,000 Euros on the GlobalGiving platform! Both projects of our organization continue to remain active, and any donations will go a long way in helping Ki Culture achieve its mission of contributing to a sustainable future through the cultural sector.

Ki Books Release

January was a busy month for Ki Culture, due to the launch of not one, but three Ki Books! Focusing on Waste & Materials, Social Sustainability, and Energy, these step-by-step guides provide practical, actionable advice on sustainability for cultural practitioners. Ki Books are free to download at https://www.kiculture.org/ki-books/. With the continued support of our donors, the series will grow over time to include topics such as Water, Education & Outreach, and Exhibitions.

New Year, New Website!

Ki Culture launched a new website, https://www.kiculture.org/. The new web address more accurately reflects Ki Culture’s non-profit identity by using the .org domain, and the new site incorporates accessibility improvements and streamlined navigation. Aligning the launch of the new website and the release of the first three Ki Books represents a significant team effort to start 2021 off strong.

Ki Team Updates

Executive Director Caitlin Southwick represented Ki Culture at a variety of events including Climate x Culture 2020, the Network of European Museum Organisations Conference, Museums Facing Extinction 2020, Sustainability Summit Series: Memory Institutions and Traumatic Heritage, and a webinar titled House Museums and Sustainability.

Director of Operations Georgina McDowall contributed to Museums on the Climate Journey: Essentials Guidebook, a collaboration between EIT Climate-KIC and Ki Culture. Ki Culture hosted a workshop on Curating an Ecologically Sensitive Exhibition and launched a Facebook Live series featuring the Ki Culture team.

Since October, 11 team members have joined Ki Culture from around the world. Their hard work is felt positively across the organization, and the work of the social media team is particularly visible. Ki Culture is now on Twitter (@CultureKi), Instagram (@ki_culture), Facebook (@kiculture), LinkedIn, and We Don’t Have Time. These provide a platform where Ki Culture can promote events, celebrate successes, and highlight partners.

Online Presence and Our Expanding Network

Climate action takes all of us, and Ki Culture is excited to continue expanding its network! We look forward to joining forces with Ideas For Us (https://ideasforus.org/), One Resilient Earth (https://www.oneresilientearth.org/), CarbonLock (https://www.labelcarbonlock.com/about), and Damn Plastic (https://damnplastic.com/).

Ki Culture celebrated its one-year anniversary in November. The word is spreading that Ki Culture is here to help you achieve your sustainability goals, with mentions in Cultbytes, by Impakter, and at the Ontario Museums Association Conference.

Thank you to all Ki Culture’s supporters who make this work possible.
