6th update on Securing the Future of Mastic Gum Trees in Greece

By Erica Lympousi | Development Manager

Following the successful completion of the public dissemination event in November 2025, the program has continued to progress with a strong focus on knowledge development, training delivery, and the completion of field activities.

Until February 2026, the implementation team has been actively working on the development of a comprehensive training module centered on the program and the core principles of mastic cultivation. This module is being shaped through the valuable contributions of trainers who have participated in the program, ensuring that practical experience and field-based insights are effectively incorporated into its content.

Between December 2025 and March 2026, additional theoretical training sessions have been implemented, alongside the continuation and repetition of field experiments. These activities aim to further strengthen participants’ technical knowledge and enhance the resilience of mastic cultivation practices in response to environmental challenges.

At the same time, the team is finalising a dedicated programme module and preparing an asynchronous digital session on Regenerative Agriculture & Climate Change, which will be delivered through the Cultivate platform. This digital component is designed to expand access to knowledge and provide flexible learning opportunities for mastic growers and stakeholders.

The programme will officially conclude with a final event on 27 March 2026 at the Chios Mastiha Museum, where the overall outcomes, key findings, and impact of the initiative will be presented to the public and relevant stakeholders.

Looking ahead, in April 2026, a comprehensive performance evaluation survey will be conducted to assess participants’ feedback, measure the programme’s effectiveness, and evaluate key performance indicators (KPIs). The insights gathered will contribute to shaping future initiatives and ensuring the continuous improvement of similar actions in the sector.

The continuation and completion of this programme highlight the critical role of education, collaboration, and innovation in supporting the sustainability and long-term development of mastic cultivation.

We remain committed to standing alongside the mastic growers of Chios, supporting the resilience and sustainability of this unique sector. Your support is therefore essential, as it enables us to continue developing meaningful initiatives for Chios, tailored to the needs of the local community and its producers.

Together, we can ensure that mastic cultivation continues to thrive for generations to come!
