Hunger a Removable Barrier to QoL
By Huzaifa Kermani | Chief Marketing Officer (CMO)
GlobalGiving Project Report
Project Title: Provide Daily Meals to 1,850 Students in Pakistan
Organization: Fatima Memorial Hospital / NUR Foundation
Report Period: Q2 2025
Project Overview
Hunger is one of the biggest barriers to learning for children in underserved communities. Through this project, we are providing daily nutritious meals to 1,850 students enrolled across 30 outreach schools in Lahore’s peri-urban and low-income areas. These students — many of whom come from food-insecure households — now have the chance to attend school regularly and focus in class with the help of reliable nutrition.
Progress Update (April–June 2025)
- Daily meals were provided to more than 1,800 enrolled students at NUR Foundation schools.
- Meals included cooked food items such as lentils, rice, roti, and seasonal vegetables, ensuring balance and sustenance.
- The program has led to visibly improved energy levels, attentiveness, and regular attendance across the board.
- Students from families facing chronic food insecurity have been able to continue schooling thanks to this support.
- Our dedicated kitchen and logistics staff ensured meal quality and hygiene were maintained throughout.
Community Voices
"I used to come to school without breakfast. Now I eat lunch here every day. It helps me stay awake in class."
— 11-year-old student, NCOP Outreach School
"This meal is a blessing. My son wants to go to school now. It's one less worry for us."
— Parent of a grade 3 student
Why Nutrition Matters
- Malnutrition is directly linked to poor cognitive development and school dropout rates.
- By ensuring students receive one nutritious meal daily, we are breaking the cycle of hunger and absenteeism.
- The presence of food in schools also encourages families to prioritize education over child labor or household duties.
Ongoing Challenges
- Rising food prices and supply chain disruptions are increasing the cost of preparing balanced meals.
- School holidays and transport disruptions occasionally impact consistent delivery.
- We need more long-term donors to ensure we can sustain this initiative for every enrolled child.
How You Can Help
- $10 provides a full week of meals for one student.
- $50 supports meals for five students for one month.
- Recurring donations help us plan meal procurement more efficiently and reduce waste.
- Share this project with your network — advocacy feeds futures.
Looking Ahead
- We aim to introduce more protein-rich options such as eggs and legumes where feasible.
- Nutrition education modules for students and parents are being planned to build long-term awareness.
- Expansion to newly opened schools is also under discussion, pending funding support.
Final Note
This project is more than just a meal. It's a lifeline. With your support, students not only stay in school — they thrive. Thank you for nourishing both minds and futures.

More than just a dream
By Huzaifa Kermani | Group Director MarComms
Project Overview:
The NUR Community Outreach Program (NCOP) launched in 1985 aims to alleviate poverty through improved education, health, and economic development. A key component of NCOP is the NUR Food Bank, which provides weekly meals to children at NUR Foundation Schools. The goal is to expand this service to daily meals to address the widespread hunger crisis among school-going children.
The Challenge:
The children at NUR Foundation Schools come from impoverished backgrounds where their parents struggle to provide basic necessities, including food. Recognizing that hunger hinders children's ability to focus on their studies, NUR Foundation initiated the weekly meal program. However, due to limited funds, daily meals remain a distant goal.
The Solution:
Providing daily healthy meals to underprivileged students at NUR Foundation Schools is essential for their academic success. This initiative addresses a fundamental need, allowing children to concentrate on their studies without the distraction of hunger.
Long-Term Impact:
Addressing hunger and improving children's health through daily meals will contribute to a reduction in Pakistan's hunger score. This positive impact will have far-reaching implications for the nation's socioeconomic progress. By nurturing the next generation, we are investing in a brighter future for Pakistan.
