We help to serve vulnerable patients in Africa who cannot afford to pay for their vital treatment. Patients receive our help via medical supplies and medicines that we send to 72 partner health units across Malawi, Sierra Leone and Tanzania. Most of the medical aid is saved from landfill and are donated by the NHS, medical and pharmaceutical companies and the public. Our aim is to help reduce medical waste & provide life-saving healthcare to rural Africa.
HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB), and Malaria claim an estimated 3 million lives across 34 sub-Saharan African countries each year. A majority of people across sub-Saharan Africa are struggling to pay for their healthcare and therefore are unable to receive the treatment they desperately need. Most of the deaths can be prevented if good-quality medicines can be sourced, and if patients had free access to medical aid when they visit a health unit.
We aim to collect surplus health care goods and medicines (donated and purchased), for the two-fold purpose of medical waste reduction and to send regular consignments of vital medical aid to rural health units across sub-Saharan Africa. The supplies that we collect can treat symptoms of illnesses such as Malaria, Pneumonia and other severe illnesses that are commonly found in sub-Saharan Africa.
Since the charity was established in 1974, 18.7 million worth of aid has been sent to mission-based health units in sub-Saharan Africa. Last year, Inter Care sent medicines for up to 76,400 patient treatments! By supporting our project, you are helping to reduce UK medical waste and deaths across Africa. For every $12 we receive through this project, Inter Care can send a complete course of medicines to support 3 patients.
