The Transit Houses operating in Uvira, South Kivu, and Goma, North Kivu, continue to provide medical assistance such as reparative surgeries for rape-related injuries, psycho-social support, information and referral to legal clinics for victims/survivors of sexual and gender based violence (SGBV). Approximately 1000 SGBV survivors are assisted annually.
Over the past three months, the South Kivu Transit House reported assisting approximately 300 women, referring 70 to a local health centre and 50 to the Panzi or the Rutshuru hospitals, and treating the rest in house.
The North Kivu safe house continues to engage survivors in activities related to the maintenance of a mushroom farm, set up in an attempt to become auto-sustainable and in order to provide survivors with a reintegration kit. Survivors receive training on mushroom cultivation and marketing strategies.
Local partners continue to engage in outreach efforts, including by involving local faith leaders, and to raise awareness on reducing stigma related to SGBV and reporting incidents.
