MedTreks Kenya is a medical skill and global health education program. There are an ongoing collaboration and partnership between MedTreks international and Village HopeCore since 2018.
The MedTreks program is tailored in 4 main areas: Education, collaboration, innovation, and empowerment. The World Health Organization reports that sub-Saharan Africa has 24% of the world's disease burden and only 3% of the health care workforce to address it. (WHO-Global Burden of Diseases, 2020). By utilizing the "Train of Trainer, "our Med Trek program is designed to work cohesively with the HopeCore Public Health program in Kenya, providing them with the specific training needed to expand their healthcare workers in rural Kenya.
Twice every year, HopeCore hosts the Medtreks medical team in a nine-day collaborative community and global health seminar. The week is full of health education, clinical skills, training, and knowledge exchange between the two teams, HopeCore and Medtreks. The MedTreks mentorship program sponsors health education and training for the health team at HopeCore.
Just like every year, the MedTreks continue to grow and expand. Several of the MedTreks team return year after year, but there are new participants from different parts each time. For this year, the Med Treks will be visiting in August-2021.
In August 2021, the MedTreks plans to:
ü, Continue with staff training and capacity building on various health topics.
ü, Continue with health care discussions on a wide range of topics and, most importantly, emerging issues in the health sector.
ü Clinical mentorship that enhances improved knowledge and mentorship.
ü, Organize a field health fair event, which suits the community's needs at the moment.
Village HopeCore has aligned its objective with Kenya's Government to achieve Universal Health Coverage by 2030, bearing in mind that health systems comprehensive reforms can be won through collaborations and not competitions.
We aim to keep the collaboration between Medtreks and HopeCore the best experience over time and make it huge in terms of knowledge exchange. We explore other avenues to make it more often.
