Nor Luyce Mentoring Center empowers 30 teenage girls from orphanages & low-income families through mentoring, skill building trainings,& financial assistance for college in Gyumri, Armenia. Our participants stay with our program for 3 to 4 years & gain skills that will help them leave their orphanages with the know how to live on their own emotionally & financially.Researches proved that teens with a mentor have a high "sense of self",feel more positive about their own identity, communicate easily.
There are currently over 250 children placed in 4 orphanages in Gyumri, however the majority of these children have at least one parent who cannot afford to take care of them. More than 200 children are enrolled in 4 special schools providing free education, food and boarding are from socially vulnerable families. After leaving these institutions many of these children especially girls are at risk of being trafficked or married at a young age. This project affects over 40 girls each year.
Nor Luyce provides teenage girls with a mentoring relationship, skill building trainings & a higher education. The girls are also taught how to share their skills & knowledge with their peers & siblings, helping them become more active citizens in their communities.A mentoring relationship provides the girls with a chance to gain self-confidence,improve their emotional stability.Skill building helps the girls be compatible with their peers, while higher education gives them a chance to have a job.
In three years the program will educate about 40 teenage girls from orphanages and low-income families to be self-sufficient, stable, skillful, goal-oriented young women who will have their college degrees to be able to get out of poverty and support their families.
