Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and as we carefully pick out the perfect gifts and make plans to share meals with loved ones, let’s pause for a moment to reflect on how the Million Moms Fund has been impacting moms near and far.

Thanks to your generosity and support…

  • The Eliminate Project—a partnership between UNICEF and Kiwanis International—hosted a seven-day immunization campaign in South Sudan to protect women and their future newborns from maternal and neonatal tetanus.
  • Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition health workers have educated mothers about the importance of good nutrition and the proper use of home nutrition packets.  And more than 20,000 children in southern Kenya have received the supplemental vitamins and minerals needed to survive and thrive.
  • mothers2mothers launched a new regional project with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) called Mentor Mothers Reducing Infections through Support and Education (RISE) to bring lifesaving HIV/AIDS peer education and support services to countries throughout Southern and Eastern Africa.  These are the regions that are hit hardest by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
  • African Medical and Research Foundation’s  eLearning initiative has trained more than 7,000 nurses to ensure safer pregnancies and deliveries for women in Kenya.  The program involved setting up a national eLearning platform, developing the eLearning curriculum and content, and building the capacity of nursing schools to use the eLearning approach to teach nurses.  Due to its great success, the eLearning initiative will be replicated by the Ministries of Health in other countries including Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia, Lesotho, and Malawi.

How about we come together to celebrate the moms in our lives and show some love to moms we’ve never met?  You can learn more about how you can be a part of the Million Moms Challenge here!
