Hello everyone!
Greetings from Pattaya. Hope you are all doing well – these last months have been difficult for many of us around the whole world. The virus is still around and it seems to get worse instead of better. Here in Thailand, we do not have any problems with covid-19. Thailand as whole country had less than 3700 cases during the whole time – but the borders are still closed and so the economy is not recovering. It makes it hard here in the city and in many places around Thailand that are depending on tourism.
We are still visiting the women in the bars and even though many bars have closed down for now and some for good, there are still some women hanging around as they do not have any other places to go. For them, it is extremely hard and they often accept our food donations and offers of free haircuts gladly. For Thailand, it looks very unlikely that any sort of big tourism will start before well into 2021 and so we wait and see.
As you can imagine, the fundraising for our new building is also not progressing much. In the moment, we are looking at many areas around town and checking what kind of new buildings are coming on the market and what are the prices. So far, we do see a lot of new building that are for sale, but we do not see the prices dropping much. It seems people are trying to weather this storm and hoping for everything to get better. But we will keep looking, will keep checking with the owner of the building that we would like to purchase, and trust that at the right time we will have the right amount of money to buy the building and turn it into a vocational center.
In the meantime, we have started the process to get Tamar Center accredited with the local government for our job training in baking, sewing and hairdressing. It is a long process, but we hope that sometime in the next year we will be able to offer official government recognized certificates to all our students that graduate from our program. This will be especially important for the future guest house.
We are also very thankful for everyone that contributed to the last GlobalGiving Campaigns. We see the amount of money for the new building slowly increasing and are very thankful for this. Seems this will be a longer-term project than we had anticipated but as a Leadership Team we are still convinced that it is the right way to go.
Thank you for your continued support and help!
For the Tamar Family
