Summary

CIWY needs to leave Machia Sanctuary and move the rescued animals who live there and depend on us for daily care. With your help, we will build new enclosures for them at our Jacj Cuisi Sanctuary.

Challenge

CIWY's most urgent project is to move the majority of the animals at Machia Sanctuary to new facilities at Jacj Cuisi Sanctuary. CIWY needs to leave Machia, where it currently cares for 400 rescued animals. While CIWY owns its other two sanctuaries, Machia sits primarily on 38 hectares of municipal land that has been managed by CIWY since 1996. This arrangement is coming to an end for a number of reasons.

Solution

CIWY plans to expand the infrastructure at Jacj Cuisi so that we can transfer most of Machia's animals, staff, and equipment to this location. Jacj Cuisi is CIWY's newest and most remote sanctuary; it comprises 300 hectares of land in northern Bolivia, adjacent to the Madidi National Park. Jacj Cuisi is completely owned by CIWY.

Long-Term Impact

We believe this will be a positive change - the animals will have more space in more pristine jungle at Jacj Cuisi. They will not be exposed to tourists or environmental pollution, like highway noise and smoke. Note: If CIWY is fortunate enough to receive a grant that fully funds this project, your donation will be directed towards the general care of CIWY's rescued animals.
