The project objective is to support unaccompanied minors and separated children who have fled from Syria, Afghanistan, Iran, Somalia, Ukraine etc. and seek asylum in Turkiye. The relief action will respond to urgent protection and psychosocial needs via in-kind assistance. ASAM will facilitate the provision of clothing, shoes, food, hygiene materials, recreational materials, stationary and toys. Through this support, it is expected to prevent the intensification of the needs and vulnerabilities.
The migration authority announced that 278.313 irregular migrants including minors lacking primary caregivers were recorded in 2022. ASAM reached 1379 of such children this year, presenting a vast need. Missing a safety net, unaccompanied minors and separated children's cross cutting vulnerabilities culminate from registration, housing, education, health problems and other risks. Acute and long-term needs must be constructively addressed for identification, case management and durable solutions.
ASAM works for unaccompanied minors and separated children affected by conflict in 33 provinces, currently, where the vulnerabilities, the forthcoming needs and necessary actions for case management are identified for minors together with other vulnerable groups through needs and risks assessments. The support will facilitate response to meet the acute and vital needs and to build regular communication, trust and case monitoring while contributing instantly and directly to children's wellbeing.
Providing support with vital materials for nutrition, warmth, cleanliness, education, and psychosocial wellbeing will alleviate the urgencies. This help can have a vital impact for immediate needs and necessities, decrease vulnerabilities and risks, and support long-term case management for children without primary caregivers. The funding will benefit the interdisciplinary and holistic approach of ASAM.
