10-year-old Ali is one of hundreds of thousands of children who survived the February 6 earthquake. Ali and his family remained injured under the rubble for three days. The family rescued from the wreckage settled in another city after treatment. Ali, who lost nearly thirty of his relatives in the earthquake, continues to hold on tightly to life. The biggest proof of this is his success in education.
Ali, who successfully continued his education after the earthquake despite all the negativities he experienced, came first in his province and 22nd in Türkiye in the trial exams organized by the Ministry of National Education. Ali's favorite subject is mathematics. “I like division the most,” said Ali, adding, “Education is wonderful. "When I grow up, I want to become a doctor and heal other people, just like the doctors who treated me,". His second favorite subject is "Human Rights". Ali says, “If a child does not get his rights, he cannot do much. For example, he cannot do his dream job,”.
"There would be no different professions without education," says Ali, who, in addition to his lessons at school, participates in Association for Social Development and Aid Mobilization (ASAM) choir activities, learns to play the guitar, and paints. Ali, loves reading books and learning new information, even he has first place in book reading in his age category. Ali, who is also interested in poetry, performs with his poems at school events.
ASAM continues its work in the field of education with 46 representatives in 28 provinces of Türkiye to help children step into a healthy future and live a life full of success. ASAM has contributed to the access of 105 thousand 200 people to formal education, regardless of age since 2019.
The dreams of Ali and many others are our future!
