Alina, 17, entered the Türkiye after the war in Ukraine has begun in March 2022 with her paternal grandmother and thirteen-year-old brother. The life of Alina, who had a happy life with her mother, father, older sister and brother before the war, changed in a way she could not predict. After the war in Ukraine, she stayed in a shelter with her family for a while and was constantly exposed to the sound of sirens. In order to continue her education, Alina came to Türkiye with her brother accompanied by her grandmother. She started living in a dormitory with his grandmother in Türkiye. Her brother returned to Ukraine after a while. When Alina first came to Türkiye, she had difficulty adapting to her new life due to the language barrier and cultural differences.
Alina continues her Turkish education along with her online education in Ukraine. Alina, who is attending 11th grade in Ukraine, mentioned that her favorite subjects at school are Ukrainian History and Law. Alina, who will finish high school this year, plans to continue her university education in Türkiye. Alina told that she loves painting and that she might consider painting in the future. She said that she doesn't have many Turkish friends other than Ukrainians living in Ankara yet, however, Turkish people support them a lot and they are happy about it.
Alina and her grandmother came to the Association for Solidarity with Asylum Seekers and Migrants(ASAM) and received legal and social counseling on the custody procedures for accessing the International Protection Applicant identities and for Alina to be officially taken care of by her grandmother. Alina was provided with a stationery kit to support her in school. She also participates in well-being activities organized by Asam. Alina stated that she had a lot of fun in these activities and she was more happy because she saw especially small children happy. Alina thanked Asam for the support provided to them in coping with their difficulties.
