The competition aims to encourage and expand the innovative and creative thinking among the students at the public schools through offering them the opportunity to express their unique thoughts while writing essays in English.
The creative writing is a new concept for Bulgarian schools and creativity often goes unrewarded, as emphasis is placed on theory and technical knowledge. Since students are given so few opportunities to express themselves, they are inclined to uniformity and cheating. This competition aims to stimulate imaginative thinking and writing by exposing teachers and students to new material and ideas, and to reward pupils for their work on a level comparable to that of traditional contests.
The English Creative Writing Competition enables students to express themselves in a purely creative format, while providing teachers the opportunity to employ new lesson plans and practice their English as judges. National awards reinforce the value of such efforts.
This competition will stimulate students' ability to think innovatively in both academic and professional settings.
