Sustainable Development Goal Number 4
By Carly Kruyer | Operations Assistant
Dear Supporters,
Taking a look at the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) outlined by The United Nations, Goal number 4 is; "Quality Education - ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote life-long learning opportunities for all."
This is exactly what the National Scholarship Program (NSP) aims to achieve and we are so looking forward to re-focusing and working towards this goal in the coming years.
The NSP aims to provide young people who otherwise wouldn't have access, opportunities to help them reach their full potential. It brings young people, local to our projects, onto the program to receive training, mentorship and work experience. While they are on project, they can expand their skill sets, meet people from all over the world, gain confidence, grow in a personal capacity and enhance their employment opportunities.
Here are the specific goals that we aim to work towards:
- By 2030, substantially increase the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills, including technical and vocational skills, for employment, decent jobs and entrepreneurship.
- By 2030, ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including, among others, through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development.
Thank you for your continued support - together we have made a difference in someones life and will continue to do so!
With Gratitude

Three Selected National Scholars from Fiji!
By Carly Kruyer | Operations Assistant
Dear Supporters,
We are so happy to have selected 3 NSP's from Fiji!
We have been working with Ratu for a few years on Caqalai to train him up to be a local fully qualified Dive Master. He has completed all of his training, and is ready for certification with PADI, this will be covered by our National Scholarship Program as well as his first year of mandatory insurance in order for him to be a fully certified dive master. Thereafter, Ratu will be able to use the Dive Masters for gainful employment and subsequent renewal of PADI membership and insurance cover.
Secondly, we have two local staff that through hard work are Dive Masters already. Anna who was previously a National Scholar who joined us as a staff member last year, after joining as a scholar and receiving additional training and certification she managed to get her Dive Masters Certificate. And Tai who has been a Dive Master with us for many years. Both Anna and Tai have paid for their own certification, but require assistance with their mandatory insurance cover in order to be employable Dive Masters for the next year.
These three local community members are perfect examples of upskilling and empowering nationals to either take on permanent roles with GVI Fiji, or to find gainful employment elsewhere!
We look forward to sharing their stories with you!
All the best,
The GVI Trust

Accelerating Access to Further Education in 2018
By Carly Kruyer | Operations Assistant
Dear Supporters,
The GVI Charitable Trust National Scholarship Program provides opportunities for students and adults in local communities and organizations around the world.
We commit ourselves to providing long term sustainable improvements for disadvantaged people and we firmly believe that it is by working with the locals and empowering them and creating opportunities for them to create change that our vision of long term sustainable improvements will happen.
Educational Scholarships are such an important part of this process. Education is a basic human right although sadly many people do not get the opportunity to learn. We have worked alongside many inspirational students and had the privileged to watch them grow and develop into leaders and your donations play a massive part in transforming these lives.
We thank you for your support in 2017 and we look forward to an exciting 2018 with you!
With Love,
The GVI Trust
