Earthquake and disaster risk reduction in Nepal

A devastating fire broke out on 17th June 2025 in Unapani a remote vilalge in Humla district in Karnali province. The fire completely destroyed eight houses in the village. The fire not only destroyed homes but also left the households without food, essential supplies, and basic resources needed for daily living.

Immediately after the fire incident, PHSE supported dry food items to the affected families.

More than six months after the fire, when members of PHASE Nepal followed up with the affected families, they reported that they had not received any external support and were struggling to rebuild their homes using their own limited means.  The harsh winter further worsened their living conditions, making daily survival a challenge and impacting their overall well-being. The families are more concerned for thier safe shelter during coming monsoon.

With support from neighbors and community members, the families had started the process of rebuilding. However, they lacked the financial means to purchase Corrugated Galvanized Iron (CGI) sheets for roofing. Without these, the construction could not be completed, leaving families exposed to harsh weather and further hardship.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, PHASE Nepal decided to provide support to purchase CGI (Corrugated Galvanized Iron ) sheets to the affected households, enabling them to complete their homes and begin living safely again. The construction of the houses is now nearly complete, and we hope the families can move into their homes soon.
