Families in Darfur have fled their villages with nothing and now they want to leave the IDP camps to give a home and a future to their children. Visionary leaders in Kids for Kids Villages are welcoming these families, many of different tribes from their own, so they can rebuild a new life for their children. They are providing land to new families and helping to build huts, but cannot do more, and the families come with nothing. We are asking help to provide the basic essentials for survival.
Families in Darfur have escaped violence and starvation, but fled their homes with nothing. They can no longer return home as their villages no longer exist. A camp is no life for a child, and adults see no future either, as they have no land to grow their food, and nowhere for animals to graze. Many have been in the camps for years. Because our villages are stronger, families are asking to move to them so their children have a proper home, but they have none of the essentials to survive.
Kids for Kids has created a Welcome Home Package to ensure each newly arrived family has the same opportunities as our Kids for Kids' families. It includes: Cooking pot & spoon, food tray & cover, jerry can for water, blankets & mosquito nets for children, and, to help them grow food, farm tools, seed grain and a donkey plough for three families to share. They will also need a donkey - the only transport - and a Kids for Kids Goat Loan (6 goats per family) for nutritious milk. Please help!
We are really proud of this Welcome Home Package as it gives a chance of rebuilding lives. You will be enabling mothers to provide food for their children, build up an income from the goats, and secure a future for their family, for the first time since they fled their homes losing all they ever owned. IDP camps provide food and water day to day but this cannot be forever, and it creates a powerless dependency. We are helping people to control their own lives and build their children a future.
