Summary

The Krajicek Foundation enables children in underserved communities to play and practice sports together close to home. We do not just build a Playground for children. We enthusiastically guide them there as well. In addition, we give scholarships to young people who stand out in a positive way and in return these recipients organize activities for children and guide them in positive development.

Challenge

1 in 8 children in the Netherlands grows up in poverty, 12% of all children live in a family where there is not enough money for sports and 3% of children in underserved communities do not move enough. Thus, many children in the Netherlands do not have a safe place to play or participate in sports or make friends.

Solution

This projects has a unique approach. We do not just build a Playground for children. We enthusiastically guide them there as well. In addition, we give scholarships to young people who stand out in a positive way and in return these recipients organize activities for children and guide them in positive development. This way highly motivated and positive youths from the neighborhood itself are tremendously inspiring to other children, thus influencing the whole neighborhood in a positive way.

Long-Term Impact

Being a role model at a Krajicek Playground. That's what our 'scholarshippers' do with the scholarship they get from the Foundation. They are tremendously inspiring to other children, thus influencing the whole neighborhood in a positive way. Children in disadvantaged neighborhoods exercise more, young people get the chance to study and the neighborhood will have a positive impulse which increases social cohesion.
