Dear Donors,
We sincerely appreciate the donors who have shown support for the Nutrition Support for 1,500 Underweight Babies project. Your concern for newborns facing serious health risks is deeply valued. At present, however, the funds received remain too limited for the nutrition program to begin serving the babies identified for support.
Every year millions of babies are born in Nigeria, and a significant number arrive with very low birth weight. These newborns require proper nutrition and care during the first months of life in order to grow stronger and avoid severe health problems. Sadly, many families in rural communities and informal settlements cannot afford the food and care needed to help these babies recover.
In many households, babies are fed diluted cereal mixtures or traditional herbal preparations instead of nutrient rich foods. Without adequate nutrition, these infants remain weak, fall ill more frequently, and face a higher risk of early death. Parents who already struggle with poverty often lack access to proper guidance on breastfeeding and infant feeding.
This project is designed to provide nutrition packs for 1,500 underweight babies while also supporting mothers with feeding guidance. Trained health workers will help mothers understand breastfeeding practices and proper infant feeding methods. Growth monitoring and home visits will also help confirm that babies receive consistent care, especially in communities where clinics are far away.
With proper nutrition during the early months of life, underweight babies have a much greater chance of reaching a healthy weight and developing normally. Early feeding support can help reduce infections, improve growth, and give children a stronger start in life.
We remain thankful for the kindness already shown toward these vulnerable babies. The encouragement from donors motivates our team to continue preparing for this effort. Additional support from caring individuals will make it possible to begin delivering nutrition assistance to the families who are waiting for help.
Sincerely,
Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
