Who We Are?

The High Atlas Foundation (HAF) is a Moroccan-American NGO with over 20 years of experience in sustainable development, reforestation, and community empowerment. We partner with rural farming communities to implement large-scale tree planting initiatives that generate lasting environmental and social value.

Our 9 community-managed nurseries produce hundreds of thousands of locally adapted saplings each year, fruit trees and medicinal plants, cultivated in partnership with local cooperatives. When companies choose HAF, they invest in a fully managed, transparent, and measurable environmental program.

An Integrated Circular Model for Sustainable Development

Carbon Mitigation - Planted trees capture carbon. Projects are verified through recognized standards, generating mitigation outcomes.
Reinvestment in Community Priorities - Carbon profits flow directly to farmers, cooperatives, and schools. Revenue funds new projects, keeping the cycle self-sustaining.

From Planning to Measurable Impact

1. Site Identification and Local Coordination

Our field teams identify suitable planting sites in collaboration with local farmers. We ensure ecological compatibility and secure all necessary authorizations, giving your initiative a credible, high-impact location.

2. Nursery-Grown, Locally Adapted Saplings

We provide saplings produced in our own partner nurseries – fruit trees, argan, olive, carob, and reforestation species – all locally sourced, drought-adapted, and ready for high survival rates.

3. Supervised Planting Day and Awareness Session

A dedicated HAF facilitator organizes a half-day or full-day planting event for your team. Activities include hands-on planting, guided by our field team, and an environmental awareness workshop – a meaningful team-building experience with real impact.

4. Post-Planting Monitoring and Impact Reporting

Following the planting, our teams monitor survival rates and provide a comprehensive impact report, including photos, GPS coordinates, species list, survival data, and community partnership information – ready to share with stakeholders and annual CSR reports.

Engaged Plan: 500 - 1,00 trees, 50 MAD / tree = 25,000 - 50,000 MAD

Activity Modules: Mix and Match

Our program is fully modular. Choose the combination that best suits your team size, schedule, and CSR objectives:

Planting Day (Half-Day) - A 4-hour supervised planting activity for groups of 10 to 200+ participants. Includes transport coordination to the site, tools, and HAF facilitation.
Full-Day Immersion - Combines the planting activity with an environmental awareness workshop, nursery visit, and community lunch. Ideal for deeper engagement.
Awareness Session (Standalone) - A 2-hour indoor or outdoor session on reforestation, biodiversity, and Morocco’s environmental challenges.
Multi-Day Corporate Camp - A 2-3 day off-site program, integrating planting, community meetings, and sustainability workshops. Perfect for leadership or strategy retreats.
Annual Sponsorship - A recurring partnership including multiple planting events, quarterly monitoring reports, and dedicated communications support for your CSR storytelling.

Building Proven University Carbon Mitigation Partnerships with the High Atlas Foundation in Morocco

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the High Atlas Foundation (HAF), I am writing to renew our invitation for universities around the world to join a growing network of academic institutions engaged in meaningful, measurable partnerships centered on carbon mitigation, community development, and student learning and engagement.

Our reason for reaching out again is simple: we have seen firsthand what these collaborations can achieve, and we believe the model we have developed together without university partners represents a genuinely replicable and impactful framework.

HAF has cultivated longstanding partnerships with leading institutions for carbon mitigation, including the University of Virginia (UVA), UWC Robert Bosch College, and University College London. These collaborations have demonstrated that academic institutions can deliver measurable environmental and social impact while simultaneously enriching the learning experiences of their students. Through these partnerships, student teams have conducted on-the-ground research and consulting in Morocco, contributing directly to reforestation and carbon sequestration projects that benefit rural communities. Students have returned from their experience with a deepened understanding of sustainable development, participatory approaches, and the intersection of climate action and human well-being.

High Atlas Foundation and University Carbon Mitigation Partnership Program

On behalf of the High Atlas Foundation (HAF), we would like to share with you a strategic framework for carbon mitigation and stewardship that we have developed for universities seeking to deepen their commitment to climate action, community development, and meaningful student engagement.

As you may know from previous visits to our programs in Morocco, HAF has spent more than two decades cultivating community-led environmental and social development across the country: planting over five million fruit trees, supporting women’s cooperative building, implementing solar-powered water infrastructure, and engaging tens of thousands of rural families in reforestation and agricultural resilience.

University partnerships have long been a cornerstone of HAF’s work, and we are reaching out to a select group of institutions to expand these collaborations further. The materials we have prepared cover the full scope of what a partnership with HAF can offer.
