Our partners have begun helping graduates of our vocational training program to open small businesses. A group of women graduates have decided to begin their businesses in their homes to reduce costs and see how their businesses progress. Fuseina, pictured here, is opening the first hair design business in her village. She graduated in April from her two-year training program and began her business in June. We are very excited for her and hope this will be the first of many small businesses to open in her community.
Engage Globally suports this effort by providing funding for the equipment needed for these businesses. We are also offering small grants for expenses like electricity. Recent government extension of power lines to most of our partner villages is a great opportunity, but electricity costs remain higher than most local families can afford. Our next goal is to raise enough funds to purchase land so that the women can open shops outside their homes. These shops would enable them to train new vocational students and to eventually hire employees.
