Summary

Every day, 700 children enter foster care in the United States due to abuse or neglect. These precious children are often removed from their homes wearing dirty clothes that are either too big or too small. Many have never been given a new pair of pajamas of their very own. Comfort Cases provides backpacks filled with cozy new pajamas and other personal care items to instill a sense of dignity and hope for the future. Help us give new pajamas to a child in foster care by donating today!

Challenge

There are over 437,500 youth in foster care in the United States. They have often suffered unimaginable abuse and neglect, and are then handed a trash bag in which to carry what few belongings they might have. Children in foster care are twice as likely as combat veterans to suffer from PTSD and only 54% graduate from high school. Comfort Cases provide children with a sense of dignity and hope by giving them comfort and personal care items of their very own.

Solution

One of our biggest needs is pajamas for babies, children, and teenagers. Some children enter foster care immediately after birth, while others suffer abuse and neglect in an unstable home for many years until they are teenagers. These pajamas not only provide comfort for the children who will wear them, they also relieve stress for social workers and foster parents who typically have to scramble to find or purchase suitable clothing for a child coming into their care.

Long-Term Impact

Children who have been abused and neglected often feel worthless and like nobody cares about them. Receiving a brand new pair of pajamas, tied with a ribbon, upon entering foster care, instills a sense of dignity and hope. We often hear from social workers that children smile for the first time in a long time when they open their Comfort Cases. Showing these children that they are cared about and that they matter has a long-term impact on their ability to heal after trauma.
