Summary

On 28 September 2018, Palu was hit by what BBC described as a 'worst case' scenario, combining a large earthquake with a 7.4 magnitude, followed by a tsunami, major liquefaction and landslides that devastated the regions of Palu, Donggala and Sigi, resulting in total destruction of most buildings in the area. This project aims to establish two emergency posts providing assistance to victims in the form of nutritious foods, clean water, health equipment, medicine and basic shelter.

Challenge

As of 12 October 2018, the National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) of Indonesia counted more than 2,000 fatalities, 79,000 displaced and 67,000 houses damaged by the earthquake and tsunami that happened in Palu, Donggala and Sigi on September 28th. Yayasan Usaha Mulia, along with various partners on site, will provide assistance to 100 families, 500 children and 1,000 adults. Starting with basic needs for emergency relief, the project also aims to provide trauma relief in due time.

Solution

Your support will help us to set up two emergency posts (one in Palu, and another in Donggala) and will provide the necessary immediate relief supplies such as nutritious foods, clean water, health equipment, medicines and basic shelter equipment. Once the emergency relief is no longer necessary, this project aims to support long-term recovery in the form of trauma relief activities.

Long-Term Impact

By working with other grassroots local organisations hand in hand, this project aims to provide emergency and trauma relief for a minimum of 100 families, 500 children and 1,000 adults. After providing emergency relief, the biggest challenge will be to restore the confidence and eliminate the trauma that was experienced by the communities living in Palu and Donggala.
