Summary

Last year, all the eleven classrooms were swept by floodwaters displacing 400 pupils. Currently, most of these pupils are learning under trees. We do our best to get the kids back to their school. So far, well-wishers have helped rebuild 3 of the 11 classrooms. The remaining 300 children are in urgent need of support to rebuild the remaining 8 classes.

Challenge

The mud-walled structures were weak hence destroyed by floodwaters thus displacing 400 children. This lead to the relocation of the pupils to the already crowded Public Schools around therefore compromising on their quality education. The drop in performance among the children can be qualified by comparing their previous grades while at Peace Kids versus where they are currently. The community isn't giving up and is seeking assistance from well-wishers to rebuild 8 classrooms to restore quality.

Solution

Paponditi Village lies on the low lands where all the rain waters from the highlands drain into the lake victoria, hence flooding. These permanently built classrooms with elevated foundation floors will be able to withstand effects of these perennial flooding. This will go along way in helping the 300 pupils who are yet to return to the school by giving access to quality education given the recommended pupil-teacher ratio at Peace Kids school and the good results posted in the last ten years.

Long-Term Impact

The project will educate 400 children who will, in turn, develop to be responsible adults who are able to take care of their families, themselves and the community at large. The children will grow to be well informed and nurtured to make critical decisions impacting on their lives and that of the community. Due to the informed nature of these children, the vicious cycle of poverty hence HIV/AIDS will be broken. These children will grow to appreciate the support and later give back to society.
