A huge thank you and goodbye to all our supporters

By Sarah Gale | Project Leader

It was international donors who first understood our vision for supporting parents who grew up in children's homes.  Together we were able to set up a parenting programme, which takes parents from the scary early days looking after a baby through to the challenges of parenting a teenager.  In the last couple of years, the GlobalGiving community has joined our support base and has helped us achieve so much.

Our colleagues and our families are incredible too, of course.  Their commitment to transforming relationships has led to hundreds of individual success stories, each one a source of love and joy for parents and children.  The changes we have seen are easy to share with the world - we have parents able to look their children in the eye, able to chat with them instead of shouting, able to meet their children's emotional and practical needs, and knowing how to ask for help when they need it.  We have children whose vocabulary has widened, who are able to share their toys and take turns, who are confident in their parents' love.  Children are attending kindergarten and starting school with the skills they need to learn.  Parents are able to find and keep jobs to support their families.

All this has raised our profile locally.  Not only have we been able to set up new groups to reach parents in the far-flung suburbs, we have also been able to train others.  For some time we have been running training seminars for psychologist and social workers working with families in crisis.  These are well-attended by professionals from across our city and region.

Lastly, our success has made local fundraising more successful.  We are delighted that we have won a grant to support our work in the coming year.  This means that we will be closing this project page on GlobalGiving with huge gratitude to everyone who has followed our progress and donated in the last couple of years.

This is not the last you will see of us on GlobalGiving, however.  We are still here, raising money for our work with teenagers and young adults who are transitioning from institutional care to independent adult life.  We also fundraise on GlobalGiving for our summer camps, the highlight of the year for some of our families and young people who benefit from an intense, transformational few days together.  So there's no need to lose touch.  The links to our pages are below if you'd like to find out more.

Goodbye and thank you!
