Dear friends of PaSch,
since January, we have been very active in finding new mentors and mentees and train the volunteers. We had interviews with two families and three young people interested in volunteering.
We organized new matches, so that finally four new mentees found their mentors. Each tandem had three individual meetings in our community center, where the child, one parent and the potential mentor could meet, ask questions and spend some time to get to know each other. All children were boys between the age of 6 and 10. In most cases, mentee and mentor easily found a way to play and laugh together and both were happy to sign their agreement on the last meeting. Now all of them meet on a regular basis, beginning at home and time by time discovering the area and wider parts of Berlin.
In February 6 of our volunteers seized the opportunity to have a diversity training. Due to pandemic restrictions, the training took place online. The trainer did some inspiring exercises on intercultural learning and understanding different perspectives. The volunteers shared experiences they had with the mentees and their families, so that we could discuss several practical examples of intercultural understanding and misunderstanding and shared advice how to create a good atmosphere for mutual learning in a mentorship.
In April, we had another get together for our volunteers to exchange highs and lows from their mentorship relations and have and exchange about questions and difficulties, for example dealing with children in upcoming puberty, keeping up regular weekly meetings or keeping in touch with the mentees in times of illness or high workload. The mentors also shared tips for nice activities and destinations for little trips around Berlin, and where provided with a list of interesting places to visit with children, like playgrounds, parks, youth clubs and interactive museums.
PaSch went through an external evaluation initiated by one of our public funders. The team provided information and some statistical data. The core part of the evaluation consisted in several intense interviews with the team and with two tandems who have been in the project for a longer time. Now we are curious to get to know the final evaluation report.
As public funding ends in June, we are also busy in fundraising activities doing online campaigns and writing applications to charity foundations.
We thank everyone of you for your donation you made – that is why we can offer different activities and continue our work. In the current situation we are even more happy about each donation we receive, so we can continue our work.
If one time you wonder if you can become a mentor at PaSch or friends of you do consider becoming a mentor – just get in touch with us, if you live in Berlin! J www.pasch-paten.de
And all the others – there are a lot of other nice mentoring projects in Germany and in other countries.
We wish you all the best,
your PaSch team
