Summary

Our Permaculture Practitioner Young Leaders Program provides practical training for 400 middle school students from agricultural areas. The Permaculture techniques we teach will be aimed at improving soil fertility, harvesting water, and building living interactions that save time and increase productivity. Hands on instruction will give practicioners the tools needed to go back to their communities as leaders in sustainable development and healthy living.

Challenge

In the absence of proven alternatives Bolivian "campisinos" are stuck in a labor intensive cycle of chemical assisted mono-culture cultivation. Depleted soils, deforestation and inefficient water use have combined to put many into debt. Time, economic constraints, and poor access to outside information have contributed to this downward spiral resulting in urban drift and poor health outcomes.

Solution

Our land is dedicated to demonstrating beneficial techniques and practices. We also work in schools directly and on other people's lands for specific projects. Solutions are focused toward low or no cost adoption. We use scientific and technological tools to give an in-depth understanding to students. We will also produce free knowledge resources to reach more distant communities.

Long-Term Impact

This program will give 400 young leaders hands on experience in techniques that have been proven to generate an abundance of water, healthy soil and bodies, increased productivity. All of our graduate Permaculture Practitioners will have the ability to find solutions to any environmental problem they encounter. With their help we can enroll communities into larger scale projects like reforesting mountains, starting a seed bank, organic and trading cooperatives .
