Summary

This project is the debut of new program for women to use filmmaking and storytelling as platforms to advocate for social justice. We'll launch the sessions in October in Nepal - and beyond in 2018. If you care about equality, if you understand the importance of speaking up, if you love stories (and know their power to change perspectives), join us in creating a world in which important stories are told by the communities that know them best in order to promote justice and equality for all.

Challenge

It's 2017, yet in much of the world, women's voices are not being heard - and even well-intentioned public policy fails because of it. Women often know, see and experience challenges in our communities in different ways than men. We have valuable stories to tell from a unique perspective that, if accounted for, would further societies worldwide. Film is more accessible than ever before. Women need to develop the skills to take important stories to people in power and ensure smart policy.

Solution

Recognizing that stories power change and stories change power, our knowledge exchange sessions are designed specifically for women who want to utilize filmmaking and storytelling as platforms to advocate for social change. Our holistic approach ensures smart storytelling strategy from beginning to end. Our international mentorship program provides ongoing support to our graduates as they bring stories to the right audiences to inform policy and maximize positive impact.

Long-Term Impact

While policy can change in the stroke of a pen, the process of winning political support can take decades. While video can be shot and uploaded in minutes, creating effective film and a strategy to influence social change can take years. Our curriculum and mentorship programming will support these 25 pilot participants over the long term. Starting in Nepal, we are amplifying more women's voices to, in turn, amplify community stories and inform policy in every country where we operate.
