Monitoring progress of children
Dear Friend,
Warm greetings and thank you very much for your generous support to our initiative providing food relief to residents in remote barrios affected by the El Nino. Climate change is real and affecting so many vulnerable farming families. This current cycle is harsh drought that destroys crops while they are growing and farmers are unable to harvest their corn or ricelands. Some of them are deep into debt already and hunger is very real. As we continue to provide food packs, vegetables and staple food to hungry families with priority to their young children, we make it a point to regulary measure the weight of the children in order to determine their progress. We were able to do this with 120 children who are currently enrolled in day care centers here.

Dear Friend,
Warm greetings and thank you very much for your generous support to our project providing emergency food relief to farmers affected by the severe dry season and then changing into too much rain for long stretch of time. This has disrupted farming activities and make small, marginal farmers here very poor and without resources that they can use for the next months. However, there are instances when some farms are blessed with timely rain and good season and crops are boutiful. This has happened to several farms here and we mobilized neighboring farmers to harvest in a communal manner the farms and get a share for their labor. The sharing here is 70 for the owner of the crop and 30 for the harvester. A total of 45 farmers benefited from this arrangement and it is very beneficial for them.

Distributing food in remote villages

Dear Friend,
Warm greetings and thank you very much for your generous support to our project providing food relief to those affected by extreme weather events here. The recurrence of typhoons and heavy rains or extreme dry condition is getting more frequent and poor farming families living in remote villages have a hard time to cope-up. This problem is exacerbated by the fact that family control is not so much practiced here especially for poor families because their belief is that children are gifts of God as well as that children are able to help in heavy farm activities when they grow up. The government is doing education campaign to limit the number of children but there is little success in this matter. During this reporting period, we provided food packs donated by a local organization to 112 poor families living in Digkilaan village in Misamis Oriental province. Our recipients are very happy to receive the food packs and we seek additional support as there are more requests coming up from nearby villages.
